    Re: Wise County Power Plant

Funny thing to me is this...if everyone is suddenly so concerned about the pollution that is to come for this power plant, why aren't they concerned about the pollution given off from the plants that currently supply our electricity ? Why aren't they at those sites protesting and whining like a bunch of lil biotches ? Why don't they just disconnect from the power supply so they aren't supporting plants that produce pollution ? See, after looking at it that way, it isn't so bad is it now ?
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

I agree 100% the Carbo plant IS outdated and VERY dirty however if new plants are never allowed to be built there is no way for these older plants to EVER be phased out.

For the folks that want to do there part to "Save the world" there are Home Solor units that can be purchesed to cut you usage and Possable get you off the grid (if you get a big enough unit and have enough sun light) Stop waiting on AEP or Dominion to install wind turbins and the like and take the incative to cut your usage if enough people do that then the Power industry will no need to build as many plants.

Here is a link to personal solor units

The county gave them a huge tax break, there is our give shouldn't we at least make it as clean as we can? As for suprbeast talking about taxes, I agree which is why again I really don't understand a lot of what we do. The cheaper taxes for resource property compared to personal property, the whole wally world fiasco, and now giving dominion these huge tax breaks. If we'd quit helping everybody else out we might be able to help ourselves.

Once again--keep in mind...we are keeping it just as clean as any other coal-fired plants put into production today. We're not blowing straight soot out of the pipes here. This isn't coke oven-messy. This is "as clean as we can" for now. It doesn't mean that we won't be trying to upgrade the emissions system as the technology becomes more affordable and more effective.

Your POV is clouded (no pun intended), my friend.

    Re: Wise County Power Plant

Thats just false. According to the Clean Air Act new plants must use the best technology available. Yet they are choosing not to use Integrated Gasification. If they would use this it would dramatically increase the mercury control. Like I said, if they would do this thing the proper way I'd really have no problem with it. I don't see why they should be allowed to cut corners especially with the large tax breaks they are already being given.

Really I think we have leverage on this one. Most parts in the state do not want anything to do with this plant. I really think they wanted to put it here because this is "coal country" and they didn't expect much opposition.

No, if you have any leverage it is because the railroad is cut out, Their fee is about half of the price of most coal. I suspect they are behind some of the protesting. In the 90s they were getting 40 bucks a ton to ship to the eastern seaboard. Get the plant in and running , they can't tear it down and move it, then raise taxes. But they will just pass them back to the consumers.

    Re: Wise County Power Plant

..and there shouldn't be opposition to it. You have to offer reduced tax rates to lure business..they will go up over time. Besides, when did the locals here become such whining wussies ? For an area who heritage includes being hard nosed, it certainly has gone downhill in a hurry. For everyone that wants to whine about pollution in the air, go to Appy and sit down on Callahan Ave. for an hour or 2...then wipe all the coal dust off of ya, and worry some more about a power plant that is to be built in St. Paul.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....
